Effects of Trial
With an estimated 150 million people watching the OJ Simpson trial verdict, 57% of the population, things were bound to change. A trial so closely followed that it gave more meaning to the justice system and make Americans rethink how things are going. However it addressed an issue that had been skirted round and avoided This trial brought it to the front and forced people to think about it. Race. African Americans saw OJ as just another black man being unfairly persecuted by the system and whites used evidence to say that 'yes, any blacks can and will commit horrifying crimes.' America was once again split in two over this watershed case. Still today, neither party has change their mind whatsoever about their thoughts if he was guilty. There were some good effects of the trial however. It shed more light and awareness on domestic violence, an issue people had once considered something that was private and done behind closed doors. It also showed how not to run a trial and that using cameras in the courtroom for the public to view is not always the best way to get information out to the public. The 'trial of the century' will probably never be forgotten, which shouldn't happen. OJ Simpson forced the country to open their eyes, it showed the problems of America and handed out important lessons. Maybe he got away with murder and maybe he didn't. No matter the case all we can do is learn from the past and look back with our 20/20 vision.
